• Eddie Murphy will be back in one of his franchise roles
  • We are talking about the 'Beverly Hills Cop' saga
  • THIS is what we know about it so far

You heard it here first, folks! The comedy king of the '80s, Eddie Murphy, is strapping on his gun holster and flashing that million-dollar smile once again as the one and only Detective Axel Foley in 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.' That's right – the streets of Beverly Hills are about to get a whole lot funnier!

Back with a bang!

In the newest trailer that's got everyone talking, we see Murphy back in action, and let me tell you, it's like he never left. The official scoop? Axel's daughter's in danger, and daddy's not having it. Teaming up with a fresh face and the OG crew, they're turning the heat up to sizzle out a conspiracy!

Flashback to '84, Murphy's Axel Foley was the Detroit detective who didn't know the meaning of "by the book." Fast forward to 2024, and he's still got it, according to mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer. "He’s still doing what he does," Bruckheimer spills to Netflix’s 'Tudum,' teasing that age has only sharpened our hero's edge.

"Director Molloy" can't contain his excitement, revealing to "Tudum" the secret sauce of 'Axel F': Murphy's on-the-fly genius. "Some of the funniest moments are when Eddie's improvising," he gushes, promising a laugh riot only Murphy can deliver.

Murphy himself admits to PEOPLE that jumping back into Axel's shoes wasn't all smooth sailing. "It was a hard one,” the SNL legend confesses. But, like the champ he is, he powered through the action, proving age is just a number when you're this cool.

After launching his career as a stand-up comedian and 'Saturday Night Live' cast member, Murphy ascended to movie stardom with filmmaker Martin Brest’s original 1984 hit 'Beverly Hills Cop'. The Paramount Pictures release was the year’s highest-grossing title at the domestic box office and landed an Oscar nomination for its screenplay.

Two sequels followed, with the most recent hitting theaters in May 1994. A fourth film in the franchise was long in the works at Paramount before moving to Netflix in 2019.

Also interesting:

The cast is a who's who of Hollywood, with Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon adding their own sparkle to the mix. And with Netflix set to drop this hot ticket in summer 2024, the countdown is officially on!

And it looks this will be the first of many Murphy projects to come. Murphy’s recent work includes 'Candy Cane Lane', which debuted on Prime Video earlier this month. He also starred in the Netflix film 'You People' that premiered earlier this year and Prime Video’s 2021 sequel 'Coming 2 America.'
