Now at 41 years of age, Gosling is having a more introspective look into his career and taking a different approach when it comes to what type of projects he wants to get himself involved in. Making a film requires a lot of time, dedication, effort, and for many actors, an incredible sacrifice to their family lives. With that in mind, it looks like Gosling is looking to make some changes in his professional life.

The actor sat down and spoke to British GQ recently, and admitted that when he first started working, he considered his “job” to be finding any role he could. “I felt my job was just to get work. I was trying to pay my rent and maybe get some health insurance.”

But now things are different. The new goal is “just to take on roles that would challenge me.”

Ryan Gosling Wants To Make Better Movies!

Although Gosling was careful enough to not specify which past roles he referred to in particular, many fans speculate that perhaps he is tired of playing a pretty face or a heartthrob in films. In time, Gosling came to the realization that his films were not being received by a massive commercial audience. And that is something that the actor now wants to change.

“That got boring, because it was for an audience of one. Movies are also made to be watched by other people,” he said, adding that ever since, “I’ve tried to look for films that can work for us both.”

It remains to be seen if Ryan can make that kind of a change in his career. But it looks like he'll get his chance very soon. Gosling has several blockbuster movies on the horizon, including Netflix’s The Gray Man, the upcoming Wolfman movie, and the live-action Barbie film where he will play "Ken"... so maybe his heartthrob days aren't over quite yet!

One thing is for certain: the Canadian still has quite a bit left in the tank, and his best performance is surely still in front of him. And we have no doubt that wherever Gosling goes, his most loyal fans will surely follow him there!
