The Oilers won 5–4 in overtime, and Leon Draisaitl piled up 4 assists, including the set-up on Connor McDavid's overtime winner. Draisaitl reacted today on Instagram: "Off to the Western Conference Finals - what a group."
For his choice of photo, Draisaitl picked a shot of the Oilers celebration after the overtime goal. It captures a scene of heartbroken Flames fans in the background.
As she often does, Leon's girlfriend Celeste Desjardins commented on his post: "Coming home for round 3 baby!!!!"
After a Game 1 loss, Edmonton took four straight to win the playoff Battle of Alberta in five games. Game 5 wasn't without controversy, however.
The Flames appeared to take a 5–4 lead in the final minutes of the third period. But Blake Coleman's go-ahead goal was disallowed due to a "distinct kicking motion" — a call that's been hotly contested by fans and commentators alike.
The Oilers then took the game in overtime. Leon Draisaitl and his team will face the winner of the Colorado Avalanche–St. Louis Blues series. The Oilers are one series away from the Stanley Cup Finals.
