After a Game 1 loss, Edmonton took four straight to win the playoff Battle of Alberta in five games. Game 5 wasn't without controversy, however.

The Flames appeared to take a 5–4 lead in the final minutes of the third period. But Blake Coleman's go-ahead goal was disallowed due to a "distinct kicking motion" — a call that's been hotly contested by fans and commentators alike.

The Oilers then took the game in overtime. Leon Draisaitl and his team will face the winner of the Colorado Avalanche–St. Louis Blues series. The Oilers are one series away from the Stanley Cup Finals.
