Actress Shannen Doherty has been cast to play a special role during an upcoming episode in the fourth season of Riverdale, which will honour the late actor Luke Perry by reflecting his legacy and showing the impact his role as "Fred" had in the show. They both starred in Beverly Hills, 90210, and were not only colleagues but also very good friends.

This weekend, Doherty posted a picture on her Instagram account, revealing that she is "deeply honored" to pay tribute to not only her co-star, but also her very good friend.

The announcement of Doherty's appearance in the tribute episode was made by Riverdale's creator Robert Aguirre-Sacasa at the most recent edition of Comic-Con in San Diego, and fans couldn't help but feel happy and touched. Aguirre-Sacasa mentioned that the upcoming episode will be "as special as possible" and that the entire season 4 will honor the late actor.

Perry is and will be deeply missed by all who knew him

Luke Perry passed away on March 4th, 2019 at the age of 52 after suffering a massive stroke. His last appearance in Riverdale was aired in April, nearly two months after his death.
