In an interview with InStyle, Weaver reveals how she came to have such a memorable name and divulged intimate details of her growing up.
While just 14 years old, Weaver revealed she was reading the famous American novel, The Great Gatsby, and came across the name that made her fall in love!

Born as Susan Weaver, Sigourney felt that nicknames like Sue and Susie just didn't fit who she was, and alerted friends and family of the change.
"I didn’t realize what a huge step it was to change my name, or what it probably said about me wanting to go my own way," she said.
"I didn’t see it in that context. I just didn’t like being called Susie," she continued adding, "Now some people call me Siggy, which is just like Susie. You can’t escape your destiny."
