Welling started out as a model in the late 1990s and then transitioned into acting quickly. He had a recurring role in the CBS legal drama Judging Amy before catching his big break with his first lead role.
TV fans (most of them female) were then really taken with the young actor in 2001, when he was cast as the leading role of "Clark Kent/Superman" in the CW/WB hit show Smallville.

While he was still starring in Smallville, Welling also appeared in different feature films, like Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), The Fog (2005) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005). He actually also sat in the directing chair for a handful of Smallville episodes, including the series finale. His producing credits include the ninth season of Smallville and a couple of CW made for TV movies.
His most recent acting roles were in the Football movie Draft Day (2014) with Kevin Costner and the popular TV series Lucifer, in which he portrayed "Lt. Marcus Pierce". Welling actually reprised his role as "Clark Kent" for a 2019 episode of the TV series Batwoman. Welling also starred in the 2020 series Professionals as "Vincent".
Tom Welling's personal life
Welling got married to his first wife Jamie White in 2002, but the couple eventually divorced in 2015. In 2014, Welling started dating actress and equestrian Jessica Rose Lee. Their son was born in January 2019 and they were married later that year.
