Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Vision
The 'Tomb Raider' series marks a significant project for Waller-Bridge, who expressed her enthusiasm about Turner's casting in September 2025. "I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team," she stated. The series aims to capture the adventurous spirit of the beloved video game character. Turner, who is stepping into shoes previously filled by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, is thrilled about the opportunity. "I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft," she said. "She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got."
Turner's Rigorous Preparation
Preparing for the physically demanding role of Lara Croft has been no small feat for Turner. In a January interview on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, she shared insights into her intense training regimen. "We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot," Turner revealed. The actress, who had not previously engaged in extensive physical training, noted, "I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape."
The 'Tomb Raider' series, which began filming in January, also features stars like Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Martin Bobb-Semple. As fans eagerly await the series' debut, Turner's dedication to her role and the creative team's commitment to bringing "Lara Croft" to life ensure that the series will be worth the wait.
