After Carrie Fisher died of cardiac arrest on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60, director J.J. Abrams found a way to bring her character back by using old footage from previous films for the upcoming Star Wars movie. This means that the 27-year-old actress Daisy Ridley will star opposite the late Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; now she has just described how shooting certain scenes was not an easy task.

"It was definitely difficult. It was emotional doing it, because you’re also weirdly picturing her. You’re not picturing how the scene is going to be," explained Ridley during an interview with British GQ magazine.

Daisy Ridley explains she was really sad while shooting Star Wars

Carrie Fisher's footage from scenes of The Force Awakens was unaltered and used for the upcoming Star Wars film. "It’s really sad. And it’s going to be really sad. But also, it’s amazing that they have all this footage that is woven into the story in such a strange way," said "Rey."

She also described how sad it was to shoot her final scene for the film, "The scene was me being very sad. Let’s just say it was not hard to be upset in that scene… I did this embarrassing speech that I can’t remember. It was so sad," she added.

Carrie Fisher will always have a special place in her Star Wars co-stars' hearts

Star Wars stars and fans have been honouring the fabulous Carrie Fisher in the sweetest ways possible. The fact that J.J. Abrams is bringing her character back is one of them, "Saying Leia had passed away, or that she was off somewhere else, felt like a cheat. Then I remembered we had these scenes that we hadn’t used from Episode VII. It was like finding this impossible answer to this impossible question. Suddenly we had classic Carrie in these amazing moments," he explained.

The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
