Brian Baumgartner talks missed opportunity

Characters "Jim" and "Pam" were arguably everyone's favourite Office couple, but Brian Baumgartner reveals there could have been another!

While speaking on Spotify's An Oral History of The Office, Baumgartner says that the M&M loving accountant "Kevin Malone" should have been with the happy-go-lucky orphan, "Erin Hannon", played by Ellie Kemper.

"Do you know that I pitched Kevin and Erin getting together?" Baumgartner asked Kemper.

"I think that would be a pretty reasonable relationship," Kemper replied.

"I went up to the writers’ room, and I said, 'If Kevin could mature just a little, there was something about their energy that I thought was right,'" he revealed. "Their energies matched in a weird way."

"That actually makes perfect sense to me. I love that pitch," Kemper added.

Kemper also reflected on her character's relationship with "Andy Bernard", played by Ed Helms, and said she felt that they "were never right for each other."

"I felt like Andy was a bit too childish," she explained.

"He wasn’t ready to take care of Erin. Erin was ready to take care of Andy, but I felt that it was uneven in that respect," she added.

Baumgartner started the podcast on July 14 and it features 12 episodes with various past castmembers.

The Office is streaming on Netflix.
