Filming can be seriously risky for actors
While making our favourite TV shows and movies, stars have had near-death experiences trying to get the perfect shot. From water accidents to car crashes, acting can be a dangerous profession.
Viggo Mortensen:
During the 2002 filming of 'Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers', he nearly drowned while filming a scene. He was floating down a river, when the current unexpectedly dragged Mortensen underwater and he thought he was going to die.
According to 'People', he says of the incident: "I remember thinking, 'This is it. This is the end'". Luckily he managed to push off the riverbed and pull himself to the surface.
Uma Thurman:
While filming 'Kill Bill', director Quentin Tarantino pressured Uma to film a high speed car scene herself, without the use of a stunt double. She lost control of the car at one point, and crashed into a tree. She was pinned to the wheel, and was scared she was paralyzed.
"I felt this searing pain and thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m never going to walk again'. When I came back from the hospital in a neck brace with my knees damaged and a large massive egg on my head and a concussion, I wanted to see the car and I was very upset," Thurman told the 'New York Times'. "Quentin and I had an enormous fight, and I accused him of trying to kill me. And he was very angry at that, I guess understandably, because he didn’t feel he had tried to kill me."

Dylan O'Brien:
In 2016, during the filming of 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure', Dylan was shooting a stunt that went wrong. He crashed on a motorcycle, and suffered serious injuries that kept him from acting for years. He sustained facial fractures, a concussion, and brain trauma.
"Even to this day, if I'm on set and I'm doing a stunt, if I'm in a rig, if there's some action going on, I am slightly irritable. There is a degree of anxiety in me that I don't think there's ever not going to be," Dylan tells 'Variety'.

Margaret Hamilton:
As the "Wicked Witch of the West", this star suffered second and third degree burns while filming her exit from Munchkinland in 'The Wizard of Oz'. She spent several weeks recovering in the hospital, and when she returned to finish the movie, she refused to be around any more flammable substances on set.
