The actress, producer and director Penny Marshall died on December 17th of complications from diabetes. She first became famous with her role on the sitcom Laverne & Shirley and later started directing. She eventually helmed hit projects like Big, A League Of Their Own and Riding in Cars with Boys. Her family released a statement post mortem saying "Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall. Penny was a girl from the Bronx, who came out West, put a cursive ‘L’ on her sweater and transformed herself into a Hollywood success story. We hope her life continues to inspire others to spend time with family, work hard and make all of their dreams come true." Penny Marshall was 75 years old.
