Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt was the wife of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. From 1933 to 1945, she was the First Lady in the White House. But Eleanor also made a name for herself independently of her husband's status. She was a passionate human rights activist and was even politically active in the UN after the Second World War. Many people consider her to be one of the most important and influential women in recent US history.

Jackie Kennedy

Jackie Kennedy, the wife of John F. Kennedy, has gone down in world history. She was the First Lady of the United States from 1961 to 1963. She made a name for herself with her fashionable and often extravagant style and was the eye-catcher par excellence at many public events. The pretty brunette seemed to love the spotlight. When her husband fell victim to an assassination attempt on November 22, 1963, the whole world mourned with her.

"Lady Bird"

Claudia Johnson was the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. She had been known by the nickname "Lady Bird" since her childhood. With her consent, the nickname was later even used in official matters. Outside of her life as First Lady, "Lady Bird" was a successful businesswoman and was strongly committed to environmental protection.

Betty Ford

Betty Ford was the wife of former US President Gerald Ford and was First Lady between 1974 and 1977. She spoke candidly and inspired and shocked America in equal measure with her openness. Betty Ford made her alcohol addiction public and subsequently campaigned against addiction. For example, she founded the Betty Ford Clinic for addicts. Above all, however, she ensured that the subject of addiction became less of a taboo.

Nancy Reagan

Nancy Reagan enriched the White House as First Lady between 1981 and 1989. Ronald Reagan's wife helped and supported her husband in political matters like almost no other First Lady and was very present in the White House. Nancy was also reportedly a close friend of Queen Elizabeth II.

Hillary Clinton

As the wife of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton was First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. The ambitious Hillary not only supported her husband in word and deed but was also politically active herself. While Bill was still in office, she was elected to the Senate in 2000 and served as Secretary of State under Barack Obama. She ran for president in 2016 but was ultimately defeated by Donald Trump.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is the wife of former US President Barack Obama. She was First Lady in the White House from 2009 to 2017. She played a major role there, supporting Barack wherever she could and allegedly often edited his speeches. She inspired many people with her likable manner and her great and natural appearance.

Melania Trump

Melania Trump, like her husband Donald Trump, the current President of the USA, will probably remain unforgettable. Her time as First Lady lasted from 2017 to 2021, after which she had to give way to Jill Biden, Joe Biden's wife. Melania often made a name for herself - and not always for positive reasons. She repeatedly made questionable statements. She is now First Lady again since 2024 after Donald Trump was elected President once again.

A First Lady always moves into the White House together with the new President. Some of these women were more prominent than others during their husbands' time in office. And some of them will probably remain unforgotten forever.

Jackie Kennedy: Her husband was shot dead

Jackie Kennedy led an often tragic life - even if she was always glamorous and smiling on the outside. People loved her and her fashionable style made her an icon for many. But behind the façade, Jackie had to put up with a lot.

Her husband John. F. Kennedy, the former US President, had numerous extramarital affairs. As if that were not enough, Jackie had to cope with two miscarriages and lost a son just two days after his birth. On November 22, 1963, Jackie's life changed again abruptly when her husband was killed in an assassination attempt in Dallas.

Her second marriage was also short-lived. She married Aristotle Onassis, who died just seven years after the wedding. Jackie then withdrew from the public eye as far as possible. In 1994, it became known that the former First Lady was suffering from lymphatic cancer, to which she succumbed a few months later.

Michelle Obama won hearts just like her husband and former US President Barack Obama. The beautiful Michelle supported her husband wherever she could and also helped Barack in political matters.

Even after the end of Barack's presidency, Michelle continues to pursue her goals. She is still trying to bring more health and fitness to American society.
