Through The Years With Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet was born on October 5, 1975 in Reading, Berkshire, England. Born into a family of actors, she aspired to do the same at a very early age. Winslet herself was a rather overweight child and struggled with bullying on a regular basis, which lead to her actively speaking out against it today. At the age of 11, she was accepted into Redford Theater school. The school itself functioned as an agency through which Winslet received some of her first gigs. 

One of her first major parts was in Heavenly Creatures (1994), playing the role of "Juliet Hume". The amount of intensity she showed in her audition was enough to convince director Peter Jackson to choose her instead of any of the 175 other girls. This was a major breakthrough for the then young actress! 

Only 3 years later, she ended up landing one of the most memorable parts in her career! Kate Winslet starred in the drama Titanic (1997). Fun Fact: James Cameron wasn't planning on initially casting Winslet, but, with enough persistence, she was able to convince the director otherwise! Thank goodness, because without her, Titanic would have never been the same! This masterpiece ended up winning 11 Academy Awards. 

In order to challenge herself to take on different kinds of roles, Winslet decided to accept a role in Holy Smoke! She played the role of a woman who joins an Indian cult. She had to perform a number of explicit sex scenes that were new to here at the time which lead critics to praise her for going the extra mile!   

In order to avoid the typical acting issue of typecasting, Winslet took on the role of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. It was here where she able to show off her quirky side and by god, did we love it! Kate herself considers this role to be one of her favorites! On top of all of that, she was nominated for both an Oscar and a BAFTA award for her role in this feature film. 

We told you she could do it all! In The Holiday, Winslet showed audiences that she was willing to star in a romantic comedy as well! The movie ended up being one of her biggest commercial successes grossing around 205 Million US dollars worldwide! 

These two were born to act together! It's sad to see that never ended up as a couple.... Anyway, these two met once again in 2008 to star in the critically acclaimed film adaptation Revolutionary Road. Her performance in this 1950's suburban classic was just superb! Amusingly enough, during the film's production, she read "The Feminine Mystique" in order to reach the mindset of an unhappy housewife in the 50's. 

Following her role in Revolutionary Road, Winslet began starring in a series of low rated movies including Movie 43, Triple 9, The Divergent and it's sequel Insurgant. Nevertheless, her reputation was saved in the Steve Jobs biopic where she played Jobs's marketing chief Joanna Hoffman. Even though the movie itself was a box office flop, her role by itself received some of her best reviews yet! 

At a certain point in most Hollywood careers, stars usually decide to pursue humanitarian issues! Kate is no different! Over the years she has openly spoken out on bullying, animal cruelty and has worked on several different UNICEF campaigns. 

Let's move on to the juicy stuff! Kate Winslet was married twice, both to Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes, before meeting her true love, Ned RocknRoll. Why is his name RocknRoll? It still remains a mystery! The two currently reside in West Sussex, England with Winslet's three children.
