• Dancer Derek Hough is currently at home
  • His wife Hayley Erbert had emergency surgery
  • HERE is what we know so far

In a shocking twist that's rocked the dance world, Derek Hough, the beloved 'Dancing with the Stars' judge, has revealed a terrifying health scare involving his wife, Hayley Erbert. Fans were left gasping when Hough took to Instagram with the news that sent shockwaves through their 'Symphony of Dance' tour.

Derek and Hayley had to be strong together

The drama unfolded after the curtain fell on their latest show in Washington, D.C. The spotlight turned to horror as Erbert became disoriented, leading to a frantic rush to the hospital. Hough's post gripped the hearts of followers as he detailed the diagnosis: a cranial hematoma, a dangerous collection of blood in the skull, all because of a burst blood vessel.

The emergency didn't end there! Erbert needed an urgent craniectomy, a procedure that's as serious as it sounds. But, there's a silver lining – she's now in stable condition, and Hough can't thank the heroes enough. "I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel," he wrote, calling for prayers and positivity.

According to the Mayo Clinic, "An intracranial hematoma is a collection of blood within the skull. It’s usually caused by a blood vessel that bursts in the brain."

"It may also be caused by trauma such as a car accident or fall,” the Mayo site states. “The blood may collect in the brain tissue or underneath the skull, pressing on the brain."

Hough and Erbert embarked on their current 'Symphony of Dance' tour in September. Following his announcement, the couple’s friends quickly took to the comments section of the post to wish Erbert a speedy recovery.

This is a potentially life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms include severe headache, vomiting, drowsiness or progressive loss of consciousness, dizziness, confusion, slurred speech, paralysis on one side of the body, and more.

Erbert’s intracranial hematoma was treated with a craniectomy, which is a major brain surgery. Recovery time for a craniectomy can take months, and some people may not fully recover, according to the Mayo Clinic. On average, the skull will heal in two months.

This means that is now time to take stock of what is important and do whatever it takes to get better. The Houghs have a very busy lifestyle, and this will mean a major shift to their scheduele.
