Donald Trump, the newly elected President of the United States, has announced that actors Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone have been appointed "special ambassadors" for Hollywood. This move aims to revive California's struggling film industry.
"They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!" Trump shared on Truth Social.

Jon Voight, a longtime Trump supporter, received the National Medal of Arts in 2019. Mel Gibson, who voiced his support for Trump in October 2024, recently made headlines for controversial comments about Vice President Kamala Harris.
Sylvester Stallone, who once referred to Trump as "the second George Washington," also joined the team. "We're in the presence of a really mythical character. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I'm in awe," Stallone said at a gala in November.

The specific roles of the new special envoys remain unclear. Trump has stated that they will serve as his "eyes and ears" to help restore Hollywood to its former glory.
In recent years, film production has shifted to other states and countries, due in part to better tax incentives and lower costs. Countries like Canada and Australia have actively worked to attract productions away from California.
