• Pete Davidson is always controversial
  • He has admitted to taking ketamine for a funeral
  • THIS is how he explained it

During his latest Netflix laugh fest, 'Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli,' the funnyman admitted to a ketamine kerfuffle at none other than Aretha Franklin's funeral. That's right, folks – the 'Saturday Night Live' legend rocked up to the 2018 send-off of the soul superstar while high as a kite!

Paying his R-E-S-P-E-C-T-S

"It’s embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore, though… I’m embarrassed. I was out and about like that. That’s not cool, you know?" Davidson, 30, said.

"I was at Aretha Franklin’s funeral like that. Yeah, I have to live with that. You know what I mean? She’ll never know, but still, that’s not the point. If she was there, she would probably be like, ‘Hey, who are you? And what the f--- are you doing at my funeral?’ It’s embarrassing. I’m so high, I thought it would be a good idea to go up to her family and go, 'Hey, I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-T…S'," he added.

Davidson attended the funeral as Ariana Grande’s guest since the pop star got engaged to him just weeks before she was asked to perform in honor of the Queen of Soul, who died at age 76 in August 2018.

Ketamine, dubbed "Special K" in less savory circles, is known for its trippy trips and pain-free frolics. But as Pete pointed out, the comedown is a doozy – and nothing to giggle at when the party's over. "It's embarrassing," he confessed, cringing at the memory of his less-than-sober salute to the "Respect" songstress.

But wait, it gets wilder! Pete, riding the ketamine wave, approached Aretha's grieving family with what he thought was a witty one-liner: "Hey, I'm just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-Ts." Yikes! Talk about a joke falling flat!

Elsewhere in the special, Davidson explained what motivated him to stop using ketamine. "I had to stop doing hard drugs because [you] can’t be a drug addict in your 30s," he said. “Doing drugs in your 20s is fine. It’s like an excuse. You’re like: ‘I’m finding myself.’ It’s cute, you know?"

While Pete's antics might have raised eyebrows, it's worth noting that ketamine isn't all about the rave scene. In controlled medical settings, it's hailed as a game-changer for those battling the blues. Even so, the drug's dark side has been thrust into the spotlight following the tragic passing of 'Friends' star Matthew Perry, linked to ketamine's "acute effects."

The fact is, Pete knows a thing or two about struggling with drugs himself. The actor and comedian has had several episodes with harder drugs in the past which as galvanized a lot of his personal life as well!

Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

Also interesting:

The 'Bupkis' star has been to rehab several times, including in 2017 and 2019, and most recently 'Page Six' exclusively reported in June 2023 that he had gone back after struggling with borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

"Pete regularly goes to rehab for ‘tune-ups’ and to take a mental break, so that’s what’s happening," one friend told the outlet.

So, what's the takeaway from Pete's psychedelic slip-up? Maybe that some tributes are better served sober, and that even celebs can have epic fails. But one thing's for sure – Pete Davidson's got a story that'll have us chuckling (and cringing) for years to come!
