Like most of us, many of our favorite stars have experienced one of the most difficult year of their lives. Actor Jamie Dornan, best known for his work on Fifty Shades of Grey, had a particularly difficult year in 2021, as he explained in an interview with The Telegraph. The actor revealed certain personal problems in his own life that led him to feel that last year was the worst year of his life.

And not many could blame him for thinking that. The 39-year-old actor opened up about why he’s calling the past year, the worst of his life after his father passed away from complications due to COVID-19.

He revealed that he still has yet to properly say give his dad a proper sendoff or celebrate his life with a funeral due to his own work schedule and the pandemic precautions. “It’s a strange thing to end the year with all this positivity — with so much praise for Belfast and a lot of good talk about The Tourist, because on many levels it’s been the worst year of my life, and the hardest.”

“Truly, you could search far and wide and it would be very hard to find something negative to say about my dad. He was a beacon of positivity — that is my overriding takeaway.” Anyone could agree that on top of everything that has been going on with the world, to lose a family member has really got to be a crushing blow.

He was also quick to point out what he will most remember about his father: “His kindness, his willingness to talk to anybody and everybody. He used to say, ‘You treat the person who cleans the court the same as you treat the judge.’ Dad had time for everybody.

All in all, Dornan remains positive with his outlook for the future, and fans will be looking forward to his next big role in 2022.
