28 Years After “Baywatch”: Here’s How ’90s Icon Carmen Electra Looks at 54

Tara Leigh Patrick from Sharonville, Ohio, adopted the stage name Carmen Electra after catching Prince’s attention in Los Angeles in 1991. A year later, she appeared on his album “Love Symbol,” followed in 1993 by her own solo album, which, however, met with limited success. Her detour through the music industry laid the foundation for her later television career. Even back then, Carmen looked absolutely stunning.

In 1996, Carmen appeared in a cheerleading photo spread for a men’s magazine; the following year, a video was produced based on it. At the same time, in early 1997, she took over as host of the MTV show “Singled Out” from her predecessor, Jenny McCarthy. Her media appearances made her increasingly well-known beyond the United States.

Her role as a lifeguard in “Baywatch” marked Carmen Electra’s breakthrough as an actress in 1997 and 1998; in 13 episodes, she followed in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson. In April 1997, she also signed a five-year contract for the spin-off “Baywatch Nights.” The red swimsuit became an iconic image of this early phase of her career.
