The ’80s Dream Girl: Kathy Ireland Looks Absolutely Stunning at 63

A California native, Kathy Ireland grew up in Santa Barbara as the middle of three daughters. Her parents worked as a human resources manager and a nurse, respectively. At just 16 years old, she was discovered by Elite Model Management at her high school—an encounter that laid the foundation for a career spanning decades.

No other model appeared in the famous swimsuit issue of “Sports Illustrated” for as long; Kathy Ireland’s face graced a total of thirteen consecutive issues. Between 2005 and 2012, products bearing her name generated annual sales of approximately $2 billion. In 2012, the British edition of “Vogue” named her the richest model in the world.

In the ninth season of the dance show “Dancing With The Stars,” Kathy Ireland competed alongside professional dancer Tony Dovolani. The duo was the third pair to be eliminated from the competition, as early as the second week. This brief foray into reality TV revealed an unusually personal side of the otherwise business-focused entrepreneur.

In 2015, *Forbes* magazine listed Kathy Ireland for the first time among America’s 50 most successful self-made women; her personal net worth was estimated at around $420 million. At the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ meeting, she stood alongside her colleagues Warren Buffett and Bill Gates—an appearance that underscored her status in the business world. By that point, little remained of the runway star; she had been replaced by the businesswoman.

In 2021, her company generated retail sales of approximately $3.1 billion and ranked among the 15 largest licensors in the world, earning her a spot in the Licensing Hall of Fame. The former modeling icon of the 1980s is now, above all, a businesswoman. At 63, however, she continues to look radiantly beautiful in her recent public appearances.
