Noah Hathaway was born on November 13, 1971, in Los Angeles. At just three years old, the boy was already appearing in commercials—an unusually early start in show business. In 1978, he landed his first major role as Boxey in the series “Battlestar Galactica” and appeared in 24 episodes until 1979. The child star was born before he had even finished elementary school.

In 1984, Wolfgang Petersen was looking for a young lead actor for the film adaptation of Michael Ende’s novel "The Neverending Story" and chose Noah Hathaway to play Atreyu. The role made him world-famous and remains inextricably linked to his name to this day.

Following the success of the fantasy film adaptation, Hathaway remained in high demand, appearing in series such as “Simon & Simon” and “Family Ties.” In 1986, he took on the lead role in the horror film “Troll,” marking his first departure from childlike hero roles. At the same time, his voice appeared in animated series such as “Wildfire,” a shift in genre that underscored his versatility. The transition from fantasy idol to genre actor marked the final active phase of his early acting career.

A serious accident in 1989 abruptly ended his career as a jazz dance teacher, a profession he had taken up after his days as a child star came to an end. The incident forced him to rethink his life and, for the time being, put acting completely behind him.

Away from the movie sets, Hathaway competed in motorcycle races in the early 1990s and, at times, earned a living as a bartender in Los Angeles. In 1994, he briefly returned to acting, taking on a role in the film "To Die, To Sleep". After that, he retired from acting and switched to film production.

In the years that followed, his focus shifted increasingly to martial arts, where he attained high ranks in Muay Thai and earned a black belt in Shotokan karate. Drawing on this expertise, Hathaway trains flight attendants and pilots in close-quarters combat—a line of work far removed from Hollywood sets.

In 2003, Hathaway opened his own motorcycle shop in Los Angeles, combining his passion for motorcycles with a career in business. This move shows just how far he has come from his days as a child star.

Six years later, in 2009, he added another source of income when Hathaway opened a tattoo studio. These ventures reveal a man who has built up several sources of income outside of acting. His appearance changes noticeably during this phase. Visually, there is hardly anything left to recognize from the “movie kid” of the 1980s.

After a hiatus of nearly two decades, Hathaway returned to the screen in 2012 with the film “Sushi Girl,” marking his acting comeback. This was followed by other projects such as “Blue Dream” in 2013, “Tom Holland’s Twisted Tales” in 2014, and “The Chair” in 2016.

Today, in 2026, Hathaway still lives in Los Angeles; he is divorced and has two sons with his ex-wife, Sameerah Hoddison. The delicate young boy who once had the loyal mythical wolf Fuchur by his side has become a man with many tattoos and a blond punk haircut. His transformation is truly drastic. You’d hardly recognize him as the Atréju from 1984.

Noah Hathaway rose to worldwide fame in 1984 as Atréju in The NeverEnding Story, leaving a lasting impression on an entire generation. Now, more than four decades later, the former child star looks remarkably different, making his transformation a fascinating journey through the years.
