Catherine Bach at 72: You Won’t Recognize 'The Dukes of Hazzard' Star

Catherine Bach made her first big-screen appearance in the thriller 'The Midnight Man' alongside Burt Lancaster, where she played the murder victim Natalie Claiburn. That same year, she landed a small role in 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' with Clint Eastwood. At that time, there was still no hint that this young supporting actress from Ohio would one day become a cult figure.

When the producers of ' The Dukes of Hazzard' were actually looking for a Dolly Parton look-alike in 1979, Catherine Bach was nevertheless cast as Daisy Duke on the spot. For her costume, she simply brought along a T-shirt she’d sewn herself and a pair of cut-off jeans shorts, which went down in fashion history as “Daisy Duke.” The series, starring Tom Wopat, John Schneider, and James Best, made her a TV star overnight.

At the producers' suggestion, Catherine Bach posed as "Daisy Duke" for a poster that sold about five million copies. During her years as Daisy Duke, Bach showed off her legs for a million. Through her role, she cemented her image as the dream woman of an entire generation and is still considered an icon today.

In 1983, Catherine Bach played the role of Marcie Thatcher in the action comedy 'Hell on the Highway'. The film showed Bach in a role outside of Hazzard County. Her fame from television helped her gain a foothold in the movie industry as well.

In late October 2025, Catherine Bach had to cancel an appearance, as her former 'The Dukes of Hazzard' co-star Ben Jones publicly announced: She had been hospitalized due to an embolism following surgery. Tom Wopat and John Schneider sent her get-well wishes, and just a few days later, she was already spotted walking her dog. Today, Catherine Bach is 72 years old, and things have quieted down for her.
