After Little House on the Prairie finished, Alison Arngrim (58) had several guest appearances on shows such as Love Boat (1981) and Fantasy Island (1981) and also starred in the 1983 TV movie Wyatt Earp. In 1984, she took a decade-long break from acting to work as a model.

"Nellie" returned to cinema screens in the early 2000's, this time playing grown-up roles in The Last Place on Earth (2002), Deal, Le (2007) and Make the Yuletide Gay (2009), among others. In 2017 she appeared in the TV series The Mephisto Box and Life Interrupted.

Alison Arngrim is still making money from her Little House on the Prairie role. Her comedy show Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a huge hit and she tours the US entertaining audiences with tales of her time as a child star.

The fifty-eight year old has a serious side to her as well though. As a child, Arngrim was abused by a relative and so she campaigns regularly and avidly against child abuse. She also supports the AIDS Project Los Angeles.

After divorcing former husband Mark Spencer in 1993, after just four years of marriage, she married musician Robert Paul Schoonover and the loved-up couple live with their daughter in Los Angeles.
