The world mourned the loss of an acting legend in 2015. Omar Sharif passed away on July 10 of that year at the age of 83. As his manager confirmed at the time according to 'The Guardian', he succumbed to a heart attack. He was in Cairo at the time of his death.

How Omar Sharif died

Sharif had already been struggling with health problems. He suffered from Alzheimer's, which the actor only made public a few weeks before his death.  

Omar Sharif became famous in the 1960s, playing the main character in 'Doctor Zhivago' and "Sherif Ali Ibn El Kharish" in 'Lawrence of Arabia'. He also shone in French films, including 'The Burglars' and 'Monsieur Ibrahim'. His last major projects were the films '10,000 BC' and 'A Castle in Italy'. 

During his career, Omar Sharif won several Golden Globes and was even nominated for an Oscar for 'Lawrence of Arabia'.
