The British royal family discreetly paid homage to a cherished friend and former aide. Prince William, accompanied by his aunts, Princess Anne and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, made an unpublicized journey to Brecon, Wales, on March 4. They attended a service of thanksgiving for Dame Elizabeth Shân Legge-Bourke, a close family confidante, as reported by the Brecon & Radnor Express. The royals arrived by helicopter from Christ College and proceeded to Brecon Cathedral under police escort.

Dame Shân's Royal Connections

Dame Shân Legge-Bourke, who passed away in December at the age of 82, had a deep-rooted connection with the British royal family. She served as a lady-in-waiting to Princess Anne, while her daughter, Alexandra, famously known as Tiggy, was a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry during their childhood years. Her husband, Captain William Legge-Bourke, who predeceased her in 2009, was a former equerry to the royal household. Dame Shân was recognized for her service with appointments as a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 1988 and later as a Dame Commander in 2015.

Legacy and Family Remembrance

Dame Shân's family announced her peaceful passing at home on December 15, surrounded by her three children. In a heartfelt statement, they expressed, "We are devastated to lose our mother. She was an inspiration to us all, and to many people she met over her years of service to Wales, and the countless organisations and institutions she supported." Her legacy is also tied to the historic Glanusk estate in Wales, which she cherished deeply. "A country girl at heart, she has left an indelible legacy at Glanusk, the wider countryside and beyond," her family concluded.
