Prince Harry has been back in London since Tuesday, but his stay is proving anything but smooth. It was initially reported that the 41-year-old would be staying at Buckingham Palace. However, the palace quickly denied the claim.
According to sources close to him, an offer of royal accommodation had been accepted but later became unavailable. The royal family stated that Harry missed a key deadline and therefore lost the residence.
Prince Harry Loses Lawsuit Against the Daily Mail
Shortly afterwards, the younger son of King Charles III suffered another major setback: A London court dismissed all his claims against Associated Newspapers Limited, the publisher of the Daily Mail. Harry and several co-plaintiffs had accused the company of obtaining private information through illegal means.
The court ruled that these allegations had not been proven. Harry reacted to the decision with visible disappointment.
They Have Received Neither Justice Nor Accountability
In a joint statement, Prince Harry and co-plaintiff Baroness Doreen Lawrence expressed their frustration in unusually strong terms. According to the BBC, they stated that they had gone to court “seeking justice and accountability. But we have received neither”.
It was also reported that the court had cleared the publisher despite documents that the plaintiffs believed suggested otherwise. Harry had declined to comment publicly on the ruling during a meeting in London. He also received no public support from the royal family during the case.
Relations With the Royal Family Remain Tense
The visit once again highlights how strained Harry’s relationship with the royal family continues to be. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, he has lived in California with Meghan and their two children. In recent years, he has repeatedly said he is hesitant to bring his family to the UK due to security concerns, even as he expressed a desire for reconciliation last year. Now, a lost lawsuit, unresolved accommodation issues, and family estrangement are all colliding as Harry carries out his public engagements in London.
