Some experts speculate that the timing of the release may be aimed at protecting Princess Kate, who is currently recovering from abdominal surgery. Kensington Palace announced last week that Kate was recovering in hospital following a planned procedure and was expected to spend up to two weeks as an inpatient before returning to Windsor.
Charles is stepping in
No details were given about the nature of Kate's illness - only that it was non-cancerous and that she was not expected to return to royal duties until later spring. Less than two hours later, a statement about the king's health was also released online, revealing more explicitly that he will undergo surgery for an enlarged prostate.
