Queen Elizabeth II († 96) is dead and there is a great sadness all over the world. Many take part. The European royal families are also reacting to the death of the British monarch. The Swedish, Danish, Dutch and Belgian royals publish statements on Instagram.

"deeply saddened": Swedish royals on death of Queen Elizabeth II

King Carl Gustaf of Sweden (76) says in an Instagram post:"My family and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my dear relative, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

"The Queen has served her country and the Commonwealth with extraordinary dedication and duty. She was a constant presence, not only in British society but internationally as well. For my family, she has always been an affair of the heart and a valuable part of our shared family history.", the Swedish king continued.

King Carl Gustaf of Sweden ends his post with the words:"We offer our deepest condolences to Her Majesty's family and people."

The Danish royal family turns to the new king, Charles III.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (82) addressed King Charles (73) directly in her post with warm words. "Deeply moved by the sad news of the death of your beloved mother, I send you and Camilla my warmest thoughts and prayers".

King Willem-Alexander (55), Queen Máxima (51) and Princess Beatrix (84) of the Netherlands also comment on Queen Elizabeth's death. “We remember Queen Elizabeth II with great respect and affection. The Dutch royal family ended the post by saying: "We feel close ties to the United Kingdom and its Royal Family and share their sadness at this time [...]."

After the death of the Queen: a moving statement from the Belgian royal family

The Belgian royal family recently published a statement on Instagram. It says: “It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was an extraordinary personality.”

They look back on the Queen's reign with great respect in the Instagram post: "We will always remember fondly this great lady who has shown dignity, courage and devotion throughout her reign."

"Rest in peace Your Majesty with your beloved husband", King Philip (62) and Queen Mathilde (49) complete the post. Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96. Her death marks the end of an era in the British monarchy.
