Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry made a rare joint red-carpet appearance on August 7 in Victoria, Canada. The Duchess of Sussex joined her husband at a gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of the David Foster Foundation.
Meghan turned heads in a strapless, floor-length dark-blue gown by Canadian designers Greta Constantine, while Harry opted for a classic black tuxedo and bow tie. The glamorous evening also carried a personal significance for the couple, making the appearance about more than just red-carpet style.
Meghan Wears Princess Diana’s Sapphire Earrings in Victoria
Meghan’s choice of jewelry drew particular attention. To complement her understated yet elegant look, she wore sapphire and diamond earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana, according to Hello!. She completed the look by wearing her brunette hair in an elegant updo.
The following day, Meghan shared a private selfie from the evening on Instagram, smiling alongside Harry. In other Stories, she offered glimpses of their time in Canada, including a Canadian flag photographed from their car and a dessert served at the charity event: a chocolate piano filled with purple cream.
The David Foster Foundation Supports Families Across Canada
The focus of the evening, however, was the important work of David Foster’s foundation. Founded in 1986, the David Foster Foundation supports Canadian families whose children require life-saving organ transplants, according to Hello!.
The organization helps families manage the often-overwhelming non-medical costs associated with a child’s treatment, including accommodation, travel, food, utilities, and, in some cases, rent or mortgage payments. Since its founding, the foundation has supported more than 1,600 families.
Held at the Victoria Conference Centre, the gala was part of a two-day celebration marking the foundation’s 40th anniversary. The festivities also included a public concert at Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
Harry and Meghan Celebrate With Katharine McPhee and Friends
Harry and Meghan also posed for photos with David Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee, highlighting a friendship between the two couples that dates back several years—well before the Sussexes made California their permanent home.
Meghan and Katharine also share a personal connection. Both attended Immaculate Heart, the Catholic girls’ school in Los Angeles, and, according to Hello!, even appeared together in several musical productions.
Canada Holds a Special Place in Harry and Meghan’s Story
The couple’s appearance in Victoria felt particularly fitting given Canada’s place in their history. Meghan lived in Toronto for several years while filming Suits, and it was there that her relationship with Harry began.
The couple made their first official appearance together in 2017 at the Invictus Games in Toronto, marking an important moment in their public relationship.
They later spent their first Christmas as a family in Vancouver and returned to Canada for the 2025 Invictus Games. Their appearance at the Victoria gala therefore represented more than a glamorous night out: it brought them back to a country that has played a meaningful role in their relationship and family story.
