King Charles reportedly brought together senior members of the royal family for a private dinner in Scotland just before Prince Harry’s expected U.K. trip. According to People, the gathering took place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on June 30 during Royal Week. Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward were said to be part of the evening. The meeting came as plans for Harry, Meghan Markle and their children to travel to Britain remain in flux, with security concerns still hanging over the visit.
King Charles Hosts Holyroodhouse Gathering
The reported dinner was described as a rare family get-together at the Scottish royal residence. Several senior working royals were already in the country for official engagements tied to Royal Week, including the Order of the Thistle service. The timing stood out because it landed just before Harry’s anticipated arrival. While the palace has not publicly framed the dinner as connected to him, the close sequence of events has fueled interest in whether family discussions may be taking place behind closed doors as the Duke of Sussex prepares for a possible return.
Prince Harry Plans U.K. Return With Meghan and Children
Harry and Meghan are expected to travel to the U.K. with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, marking the children’s first visit to Britain in four years. The family last visited in 2022 during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The trip is expected to include engagements linked to the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, along with other charity work. The children are not expected to appear at public events, and the family’s schedule is thought to include both private accommodation and a royal residence.
Security Dispute Still Clouds the Visit
The biggest obstacle remains security. Harry and Meghan lost state-funded protection in Britain after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, and the issue has continued to shape travel plans. "The issue has never been accommodation. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit," a spokesperson for Prince Harry told People. Harry’s side has also said an independent Risk Management Board review that was expected earlier this year did not take place, adding another layer of uncertainty.
King Charles May Still See Archie and Lilibet
Despite the complications, Harry is still said to be hoping for time between his children and their grandfather. King Charles continues cancer treatment, which gives the possible reunion extra weight. The family is currently believed to be in Europe ahead of the trip, possibly helping Archie and Lilibet adjust to the time difference before arriving from California. Harry’s spokesperson said, "The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the U.K.," according to People Magazine.
