Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander are back in the public eye. The couple attended the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on Sunday, accompanied by their daughter, Princess Alexia. It was their first official engagement since their summer vacation in Greece, making the appearance a notable moment for royal fans.
In good spirits and seemingly relaxed, the three watched the Formula 1 action unfold. Beyond the summery atmosphere, however, the family dynamic also caught attention, as two familiar faces were absent from the event.
Máxima, Willem-Alexander, and Alexia Attend the Race Together
According to t-online.de, the royal couple arrived with their daughter about 90 minutes before the race began. Alexia joined her parents at an event the family has regularly attended in recent years, although the royal lineup has varied from one occasion to another.
This time, Crown Princess Amalia and the youngest daughter, Princess Ariane, were not present. No official reason was given for their absence.
With her stylish appearance and confident presence, however, Princess Alexia quickly became one of the main talking points of the day.

The event also made a few clear fashion statements. Willem-Alexander wore a dark blue suit with a white shirt and a bright yellow tie. Máxima opted for a loose-fitting white blouse and a beige skirt with a large floral pattern. She accessorized with wedge-heeled sandals, a white handbag, sunglasses, and statement earrings.
Alexia easily outshone both of her parents. She opted for a simple, strapless black jumpsuit, accessorized with a gold belt, subtle jewelry, a brown bag, and brown heels. Her hair was styled in soft waves—the princess looked absolutely gorgeous.
Willem-Alexander Takes on a Role at the Awards Ceremony
The royals didn't just sit on the sidelines. After the race, Willem-Alexander presented the winner with the trophy. For the king, the visit to Zandvoort is thus also an official engagement with a visible role in the event's proceedings.
On the track, it was a turbulent day: Local hero Max Verstappen was forced to retire after a serious crash on the very first lap. In the end, Lando Norris took the win ahead of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. The race was also temporarily suspended, which further shaped the day.
For now, Zandvoort marks the end of a Royal tradition
The event had another layer of significance, as the Grand Prix at Zandvoort was taking place for the last time—at least for the time being. It wasn’t until 2021 that the race returned to the Formula 1 calendar after a 36-year absence. Since then, the Dutch royal family has been a regular presence there, sometimes as a couple, sometimes with their daughters.
That is precisely why the visit by Máxima, Willem-Alexander, and Alexia felt like a special moment to mark the end of this phase. After the summer break, the family appeared approachable, engaged, and closely connected to a sporting event that has recently held great significance for the Netherlands.
