While Harry has publicly expressed his desire for reconciliation on several occasions, the heir to the throne’s position appears unchanged. The focus is not only on the brothers’ personal relationship, but also on how the two will interact at future family events.
Simon Vigar Describes William and Kate’s Stance
Royal author Simon Vigar succinctly describes Prince William and Princess Kate’s stance: “Keep calm and carry on. They see it as a sideshow and ancient history,” according to People. His assessment puts the focus on the Wales family’s priorities.
According to Vigar, William and Kate remain focused on their own daily lives and their family. William does not appear interested in a meeting with Harry, and Harry’s public gestures toward reconciliation do not seem to have changed that position for the time being.
Caution Within the Palace Shapes How Harry Is Treated
According to sources close to the palace cited by People, William and Kate are maintaining their position. One insider said that the estrangement had taken a heavy toll on both brothers and that William’s cautious approach was understandable.
Historian Amanda Foreman described the situation between the brothers in even stronger terms: “At the moment, it has gone from being a hot war to a very, very cold war.”
Russell Myers Says William Has Set Clear Boundaries
Royal editor Russell Myers also outlined what he sees as the heir to the throne’s position. According to Myers, William leaves it to King Charles to determine how he handles his relationship with Harry and the Sussexes. For himself, however, the Prince of Wales has drawn a clear line.
Myers said William is looking toward the future, stating: “He will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.” At the same time, Myers pointed out that William, as the future king, is not entirely free from expectations. Official royal engagements, in particular, could require the brothers to appear together, at least to some extent.
Family celebrations, such as Christmas at Sandringham, could prove particularly awkward. If King Charles were to invite Harry, Meghan, and their children, it could be difficult to completely avoid an encounter between the brothers.
