Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are reportedly planning to establish a primary residence in the United Kingdom with their children, Archie and Lilibet, later this month. The couple is said to be setting up a private home outside London, without returning to official royal duties.

If the plans go ahead, it would give the family a permanent base in the U.K. for the first time since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and moved away in 2020. At the same time, they are expected to maintain their homes in California and Portugal.

What is particularly noteworthy is that King Charles was reportedly informed of the plans only on Sunday, even though the move is said to have been under consideration for several weeks.

Archie and Lilibet Could Start at a British School in September

A key reason behind the move appears to be family life. Archie and Lilibet are reportedly expected to attend school in the United Kingdom beginning in September. The location of their new home and the school are being kept private.

According to People, those close to the couple see the move as the beginning of a new chapter for the Sussexes. Harry and Meghan reportedly intend to continue living as private citizens while spending more time in the U.K.

For the children, the change could mean a more settled daily routine, a stronger sense of community, and greater proximity to family members.

King Charles Welcomes the Chance to See the Family More Often

There have recently been tentative signs of a reconciliation between Harry and his father. In July, the Sussexes visited King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove with their children. It was reportedly the king’s first in-person meeting with his grandchildren in more than four years.

Charles is said to welcome the possibility of seeing Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet more regularly in a private setting. However, their status remains unchanged: Neither Harry nor Meghan is expected to return to official roles as working royals.

Prince William and Princess Kate have also reportedly been informed of the plans.

Security Concerns Have Shaped Harry’s Relationship With the U.K.

For years, security concerns have been one of the biggest obstacles to Harry making regular visits to the United Kingdom. The Duke of Sussex has repeatedly said that concerns about his family’s safety have made trips to Britain difficult.

Harry also challenged the decision to reduce his automatic police protection after stepping back as a working royal, but was unsuccessful in his legal case.

Following reports of the relocation plans, a Home Office spokesperson reiterated that decisions regarding security for royals and other public figures are made according to established standards and individual circumstances.
