Prince Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan found a special way to celebrate the Duke of Sussex's birthday this week. It was revealed on Tuesday evening that the royal couple made a sizable donation to a charity very near and dear to their hearts. It turns out that there has been an ongoing campaign to raise money for the organization CAMFED in honour for both Harry and Meghan's birthdays this year.
Harry & Meghan donate $130,000 to CAMFED
The aforementioned campaign ended on Tuesday, September 15, and reached a total amount of $129,000, which was then matched by a generous donation of $130,000 by Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan (formerly Meghan Markle). The couple shared a message through CAMFED's Twitter acccount, saying: "No better way to celebrate what really matters. Thank you to everyone who donated, Harry and Meghan."
CAMFED is a non-profit organization working at trying to eradicate poverty in Africa by providing education and empowerment to girls, according to a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. CAMFED is described on their website as follows: "We catalyze the power of the most vulnerable girls and young women to create the future they imagine — for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa."
The couple actually have a long relationship with the organization through their official work back when they were still senior royals. In 2018, Prince Harry visited with CAMFED in Zambia and Meghan was part of a panel discussion with CAMFED’s executive director, Angie Murimirwa, for International Women’s Day in 2019.
According to a source cited by People, in addition to the huge donation by the Sussexes, Harry had "some birthday celebrations quietly with the family" at home in Santa Barbara, where they recently bought a house.
