Prince William and Prince Harry have both backed the 2026 Diana Award, but they did so apart rather than together. The brothers each sent letters to this year’s recipients as the charity honored 198 young people from 44 countries at its virtual ceremony on 4 November. The move kept their mother’s legacy at the center of the occasion, while also underlining the distance between them after years of strain. According to Hello Magazine, Harry has been in the UK since the end of August and is still believed not to have reunited with William.
Prince William and Harry Support Diana’s Legacy Separately
The Diana Award was created in 1999 to honor Diana, Princess of Wales, and her belief in the power of young people to change the world. It recognizes changemakers aged 9 to 25 for long-term work in humanitarian causes, social justice, anti-bullying efforts, and community action. The charity also runs school programs and mentorship initiatives across the globe. Both brothers continue to support that mission, but this year their involvement came through separate congratulatory letters, a detail that has drawn fresh attention to the state of their relationship.
Dr Tessy Ojo Praises 198 Young Changemakers
The event placed the focus firmly on its recipients, with nearly 200 young people recognized for their work. "We are incredibly proud to celebrate young people from across the world receiving the Diana Award this year. Their courage, compassion and determination to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges are a powerful reminder that young people are the changemakers of today," said Dr Tessy Ojo CBE according to Hello Magazine. She also stressed the broad reach of their impact, pointing to a generation pushing forward with purpose across very different backgrounds and circumstances.
Diana Award Continues Princess Diana’s Mission
The charity’s work reflects values long associated with Diana’s public life: compassion, service, and direct support for people in need. Recipients are selected for sustained commitment rather than one-off acts, which gives the honor a strong humanitarian focus. That framework helps explain why the award still carries weight nearly three decades after Diana’s death. For William and Harry, support for the charity remains one of the few public links that still connect them in a shared cause, even when their appearances and messages no longer come as a pair.
William and Harry Once Stood Together in 2021
There was a time when the brothers briefly appeared shoulder to shoulder despite the family split. In 2021, they came together to mark what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday and to present a statue in her memory. In their joint tribute, they said: "Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better." That moment now stands in sharp contrast to their latest separate role at the event.
