Prince William touched the hearts of many royal fans with a personal tribute to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. In a heartfelt video message, the Prince of Wales reflected on the moments that remain closest to his heart.

Rather than grand state occasions, he focused on simple everyday moments at Windsor Castle: tea, cake, and quiet conversations with the Queen and Prince Philip. As People reports, the message is part of a digital memorial page dedicated to Queen Elizabeth, which has continued to grow since her passing in September 2022.

Prince William Recalls Tea with the Queen

The 44-year-old revealed that he regularly visited his grandparents at Windsor while attending nearby Eton College. Those visits, he said, remain among his most treasured memories.

"Whilst I had the privilege to know the late Queen better than most, some of my fondest memories of my grandmother are from here in Windsor. I remember many a quiet afternoon, having tea with her and my grandfather at the castle, chatting, sharing stories, and seeing how completely at ease she was here, surrounded by family and her much-loved dogs and horses," Prince William said in the video, shared on the queenelizabeth.com website.

Windsor Revealed a More Personal Side of the Queen

William said he was especially struck by how relaxed Queen Elizabeth seemed in her familiar surroundings.

"Watching her ride her horses in the Great Park, even well into her later years, showed a side of Granny the world didn't often see – off-duty, relaxed and utterly at home."

He also smiled as he recalled one lasting habit she passed on to him.

"To this day, she has given me a love of tea time that I never knew I needed."

Queen Elizabeth’s 100th Birthday Is Being Commemorated

The video message forms part of the tributes marking the year in which Queen Elizabeth would have celebrated her 100th birthday. The monarch died at the age of 96 after a remarkable 70-year reign. Her husband, Prince Philip, had passed away in 2021.

Today, Prince William lives on the Windsor estate with Princess Kate and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—making the place where so many cherished memories were created an even more meaningful family home.

Plans for Queen Elizabeth’s Memorial Continue

Alongside the digital memorial, plans for a national tribute are also moving forward. King Charles and Queen Camilla have already reviewed concepts and designs, including statues and other artistic elements.

A memorial park is planned for St. James’s Park. According to People, Alex Holmes of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee said the team spent more than two years consulting people across the United Kingdom to find the most fitting way to honor the late Queen’s legacy. The vision is to create a place that brings people together—just as Queen Elizabeth did throughout her lifetime.
