In a display of royal dedication and military camaraderie, Prince William (41, Prince of Wales) swapped his regal attire for full camouflage gear as he joined the valiant soldiers of the Mercian regiment during their rigorous training exercises on Thursday. This marked his inaugural visit since being bestowed the esteemed title of Colonel-in-Chief by his father, King Charles (75), in a post-Elizabethan reshuffle of royal duties.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's dedicated military tour unveils commitment

The Prince, alongside his equally committed wife, Kate Middleton (41), has been on a tour de force, engaging with their newly assigned military units. Princess Kate, not one to shy away from a challenge, embraced her role as Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st the Queen’s Dragoon Guards earlier this month with equal gusto, donning her own set of camo in Norfolk.

Upon his arrival at Salisbury Plain, William was promptly briefed on the regiment's preparations for an operation set to unfold next year in Poland, involving combat engineering and air defense—a mission resonating deeply with the Prince, who had previously visited British troops stationed near the Ukraine border.

"I'm here because I want to personally thank the Polish and British troops working in close and crucial partnership," William expressed during his March visit, commending the Polish people's "inspiring humanity" amidst the Ukraine crisis.

The day's activities saw William inspecting a Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle and observing an attack exercise, before engaging with the troops to learn about their diverse roles and experiences within the regiment.

Crowned in service

Beyond the Mercian regiment, William's military titles include Colonel-in-Chief of The Army Air Corps and Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Valley, where he once served as a pilot.
