During a visit to the Christie Cancer Centre in Manchester, Princess Kate spoke candidly about her experiences during chemotherapy. The 44-year-old met with patients and staff in an art therapy room and described just how emotionally demanding the treatment had been.
One of her most striking revelations was the difficulty she had concentrating. Kate explained that cancer treatment doesn’t only affect the body—it can also transform everyday life, the way you think, and even the simplest routines.
Princess Kate Opened Up About Her Struggles With Concentration
According to People, the Princess of Wales reflected on a period when she could barely focus on reading. “I don't know about you, but I didn't have the ability to read or really focus on anything,” Kate said.
Instead, she discovered another way to find peace: coloring. The simple creative activity allowed her to focus on something calming without feeling the need to achieve a specific result.
Coloring Became a Quiet Escape
Kate explained that coloring gave her a chance to let go and simply enjoy the moment. There was no pressure, no expectations, and no finished masterpiece to create. That was exactly what made it so meaningful. “[It was] just a way of playing and losing yourself.”
The Princess of Wales Has Been in Remission Since 2025
Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in 2024 and completed chemotherapy in September of that year. In January 2025, she announced that she was in remission and had gradually begun returning to public life.
During her visit to Manchester, she also spoke with patients at the Oak Road Treatment Centre about the profound changes that come with treatment. She explained that the experience affects not only the body but also emotional well-being and a person’s sense of self.
Art Has Long Been Part of Kate’s Life
Kate’s comfort with creative activities reflects a lifelong passion for the arts. She studied art history at the University of St. Andrews and has enjoyed painting and coloring for many years.
Creativity also plays an important role in family life. Together with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, she often enjoys artistic activities. Her latest comments now give that longtime interest a deeply personal meaning.
