• Sarah Ferguson is Prince Andrew's ex-wife
  • She has revealed a new cancer diagnosis
  • HERE is what we know so far

The world of royalty has been rocked by a health scare that's as alarming as it is inspiring! Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has recently faced a startling diagnosis of malignant melanoma, a dangerous form of skin cancer. But fear not, loyal subjects and fans, for the duchess is tackling this challenge head-on with the poise of a true royal!

Sarah is still in good spirits

In a heartfelt Instagram revelation, the duchess shared her "shock" at the diagnosis, yet assured her global following that she remains in "good spirits," bolstered by the "many messages of love and support." This comes after the duchess had several moles removed while undergoing reconstructive surgery following a battle with breast cancer.

It's been a whirlwind of medical news for the royals this week, with the Duchess's announcement following other royal health updates. But Sarah Ferguson, known for her resilience, is not letting this second cancer diagnosis within a year dim her indomitable spirit.

"Another cancer diagnosis has been a shock," she admitted, "but I'm in good spirits." She's even using her experience to underscore the vital importance of regular health checks, emphasizing the need to monitor moles for signs of melanoma.

The duchess is the third royal to announce a medical procedure this week. "I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer," she said on Instagram on Monday. It was her second cancer diagnosis within a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer and having undergone a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

"Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I'm in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support."

On Sunday her spokesman had said: "Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.

She was undergoing further investigations to ensure this had been caught in the early stages, he added. The duchess's journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Last year, she faced breast cancer head-on, underwent a mastectomy, and used her platform to raise awareness. She's been open about her treatment, urging women to get screened and sharing her story to potentially save lives.

Ferguson went on to have a single mastectomy at King Edward VII hospital in London, a private clinic used by senior royals.

As CNN reports, exposure to the sun is the major risk factor in all types of skin cancer, but risk also increases in people who have fair skin that freckles or burns. And Fergie's skin is quite fair, indeed. In addition, people who have many moles and/or irregularly shaped moles are at higher risk.

"The Duchess wants to thank the entire medical team which has supported her, particularly her dermatologist whose vigilance ensured the illness was detected when it was," her spokesperson said. "She believes her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma," he added.
