King Willem-Alexander has to cancel his planned trip to the USA. The Dutch monarch is seriously ill, as the palace announced in a statement.

"His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will not participate in the working visit to California and Texas from 6 to 9 September 2022. This decision has been made on doctors' advice," the statement read.

But why is Queen Máxima's husband missing? According to the palace, the royal is currently recovering from pneumonia.

Instead of going with Willem-Alexander, Máxima will now travel to the USA alone. There she will visit the cities of San Francisco and Austin as well as Silicon Valley.

The reason for the trip is, among other things, to promote cooperation between the USA and the Netherlands in areas such as climate change.
