Kate Middleton made a rare and deeply personal appearance in London this week, returning to the Royal Marsden Hospital where she received cancer treatment in 2024. The Princess of Wales visited the hospital one day after joining Prince William in Liverpool for World Suicide Prevention Day. This latest engagement carried added weight, as it brought her back to a place tied closely to her own health journey. During the visit, she spent time with patients undergoing treatment and learned more about support programs funded through her recent charity effort.

For the visit, the princess wore a green Suzannah London dress previously seen during Mental Health Awareness Week in 2023. Her focus, though, stayed firmly on the people inside the hospital. She met patients currently receiving care and heard how fundraising linked to her recent physical challenge will help improve services. According to Town & Country, the money raised is set to support patients through expanded recovery and wellbeing resources. The occasion also underlined her continuing connection to the hospital after finishing treatment.
Princess of Wales Backed Three Peaks Fundraiser
Earlier this year, Kate completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in private, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours. The effort raised money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and drew attention to holistic cancer care. The challenge was kept out of public view until it had been completed. Funds from that campaign will go toward a new specialist Centre for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery, designed to support patients beyond medical treatment and to strengthen care during recovery.

The princess also spoke openly about what that support meant to her during treatment. “This is my small way of being able to give back and say thank you to you,” the princess said according to The Times. She added, “I had incredible care here and support from a huge team and I’m really really grateful on a personal level.” Her remarks placed the spotlight on the staff and on the wider value of care that extends beyond medicine, especially during long and difficult treatment periods.
Royal Marsden Role Grew After Her Recovery
Kate also stressed the value of therapeutic and family-centered support during illness. “I think it will be transformative not only for patients but for families too,” the princess said according to The Times. This was not her first return to the hospital since treatment ended. In January 2025, she and Prince William visited to thank staff members in person for their care and compassion. Later that year, the couple became joint patrons of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, marking a lasting royal role shaped by personal experience.
