On September 9, Prince William traveled to Oslo to attend the funeral of Norwegian King Harald V. However, he made the trip from the United Kingdom without Princess Kate.
The Princess of Wales remained in Windsor, while William traveled to Norway with Princess Anne. The ties between the two royal families are considered close, as King Charles and King Haakon are related.
Prince William Traveled to Oslo With Princess Anne
Kate’s absence initially raised questions, as the British royal family was represented at the funeral. William did not travel alone, however: he was accompanied by his aunt, Princess Anne. According to reports from Norway, she attended in a private capacity as King Haakon’s godmother.
Guests in Oslo also included representatives of the Danish, Swedish, Spanish, and Belgian royal families, as well as presidents, prime ministers, and other invited dignitaries.
Princess Kate Stayed in Windsor for the Children
The reason Kate remained in Windsor was that all three of her children were starting a new school year. A new chapter began this week for Prince George, who transferred to Eton College near Windsor. At the same time, his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, returned to Lambrook School.
With the children beginning the new school year, Kate stayed home to support her family. Under these circumstances, William made the trip to Oslo without his wife.
Prince George Begins a New Chapter at Eton College
For George, the move to Eton marks a significant new chapter. The historic boys’ school is located not far from Windsor and is one of the United Kingdom’s most renowned educational institutions.
His transition to Eton also brings changes to his daily routine as he begins boarding school. Meanwhile, Charlotte and Louis are continuing their education at Lambrook School. With all three children starting a new school year, Kate remained in Windsor while William represented the British royal family at King Harald’s funeral.
