A major milestone is approaching for Prince George. The eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate will complete his studies at Lambrook School in Berkshire this summer. For months, speculation has surrounded which secondary school the young royal would choose next. Now the answer is clear: George will attend Eton College after the summer break. In doing so, the 12-year-old is following a path deeply rooted in family tradition while beginning an exciting new chapter of his own.
Prince George Will Begin at Eton in September
Kensington Palace has confirmed the decision, according to reports from t-online. George turns 13 on July 22, making him the ideal age to enroll at the historic boarding school. The college is also located in Berkshire, just a short drive from the family’s Windsor residence, Adelaide Cottage.
For William and Kate, that close proximity is believed to have played a significant role as they weighed the options for their son’s future education.
Prince William and Prince Harry Took the Same Route
With the move, George will follow in the footsteps of both his father and uncle. Prince William enrolled at Eton in 1995, with Prince Harry joining several years later. William has often spoken fondly of his years there.
“I've really enjoyed being able to go about Eton as just another student", William once recalled, according to Star.
Harry, however, described a different experience in his memoir, revealing that he sometimes struggled to fit in and felt isolated because of his background.
Princess Kate Explored Several Options
The decision was reportedly far from straightforward. Alongside Eton, other schools were considered, including Marlborough College—Kate’s former school—as well as Oundle School and St. Edward’s School in Oxford. William and Kate were seen visiting several campuses over recent months.
In the end, tradition, family proximity, and the school’s reputation appear to have tipped the balance. The move also marks the end of George’s daily school life alongside his sister Charlotte, as Eton remains an all-boys institution.
Eton College Remains One of Britain’s Most Prestigious Schools
Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is among the most respected schools in the United Kingdom. Around 1,300 boys aged 13 to 18 attend the institution, where annual tuition fees are estimated at approximately £63,000, according to Gala.
Its list of former students includes around 20 British prime ministers, along with notable figures such as George Orwell, Ian Fleming, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Laurie, Damian Lewis, Tom Hiddleston, and Bear Grylls.
For George, Eton will mark the beginning of a significant new chapter—one that could shape not only his education but also his future role within the royal family.
