Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit is recovering from a lung transplant in Oslo, while her children Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus traveled to the United States for the World Cup, where they watched Norway’s match against Senegal from the stands.
The royal siblings’ appearance stood out as the family has been under immense pressure in recent weeks, with the two now once again radiating joy and lightness.
Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus Cheer in New Jersey
Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus enthusiastically supported the Norwegian team in East Rutherford, New Jersey. From the stands, they cheered on Erling Haaland’s side as Norway secured a 3–2 win over Senegal—its second victory in as many group-stage matches.
According to “web.de,” the siblings are also set to visit a soccer academy in Brooklyn on Wednesday. These mark their first public appearances since their mother’s transplant.
Mette-Marit Recovering After Lung Transplant
The Crown Princess has long suffered from pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable disease that causes progressive scarring of the lungs and increasing difficulty in breathing. In early June, the Norwegian Royal Court described her condition as life-threatening, after which she was placed on the transplant waiting list.
She underwent surgery last week. “The lung transplant has been successful so far,” said surgeon Arnt Fiane in an official statement. Since her diagnosis in 2018, Mette-Marit had been able to live relatively normally, but her condition worsened significantly in recent months.
Ingrid Alexandra Returned from Australia
The Crown Princess’s illness has affected the entire family. Ingrid Alexandra returned from Australia, where she is studying, specifically to be close to her mother. Crown Prince Haakon also canceled several official engagements to support her.
On Norway’s National Day in May, Mette-Marit appeared in traditional dress wearing an oxygen mask before withdrawing from public life. According to doctors, without the operation she would have had about a year to live, but her prognosis has now improved significantly.
The appearance of her children in the U.S. also offers a hopeful sign that the Crown Princess is on the path to recovery.
