• Meghan and Prince Harry learned they were expecting in 2018
  • They told family members on Princess Eugenie's wedding day
  • Harry shared his side of the infamous story in his book Spare

Royal fans have always wondered: Why would Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan choose to announce they were expecting a baby – DURING a relative's wedding?

That story has gone around for a while, and it's one that led some to brand Harry and Meghan as selfish and inconsiderate. But now...

Prince Harry confirmed the truth of the story in his new book Spare. He also explained why his cousin Princess Eugenie's wedding day was the time to share the news.

Prince Harry says a royal tour made him break the news

It turns out Harry and Meghan had actually delayed their first royal tour as a married couple, so they could attend Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

This was back in 2018. They had also learned they were pregnant shortly before, and hoped to tell family members before jetting off for weeks on end.

In Spare, Harry writes that he was "deliriously happy" for Princess Eugenie and her new husband.

At the same time, the wedding was for him: "A chance to pull aside family members one by one and tell them our good news."

How the royals reacted to Harry and Meghan's pregnancy

Prince Harry also shared how certain relatives reacted to the news – that Meghan was pregnant with their first child, Archie.

His father Charles "was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time; his wide smile warmed me."

Also interesting:

On telling his brother Prince William, Harry wrote: "We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said we must tell Kate...

"[Kate] also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I'd hoped — as I'd wished."

So there it is. Does Harry's explanation make up for the curious timing of his announcement? Or was his cousin's wedding still the wrong place?...
