Lea Michele could soon return to one of her most iconic television roles! The actress is reportedly in talks to reprise her role as Rachel Berry in the upcoming 'Glee' reboot, according to Deadline.
The new series has reportedly been ordered for Hulu and Disney+, and creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed that he had spoken with around ten members of the original cast.
However, no cast members have been officially confirmed yet. So far, 20th Television is attached to produce the project, with Murphy developing the script alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.
'Glee' Reboot: Lea Michele Could Return as Rachel Berry
Even before reports of the current negotiations emerged, Lea Michele had expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the beloved series.
"I will always love 'Glee.' I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes," she previously told E! News.
In the original show, Michele portrayed Rachel Berry, an ambitious young singer from Lima, Ohio, who dreamed of making it big on Broadway. More recently, the actress returned to the stage as Florence Vassy in the Broadway revival of 'Chess' and also made a guest appearance in 'Elsbeth'.
'Glee' Returns More Than a Decade After Its Finale
The original series aired for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, following the lives of students at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.
At the heart of the show was the New Directions glee club, whose musical performances were woven into storylines exploring friendship, relationships, sexuality, racism, disability, and mental health.
The series became a major cultural phenomenon, winning six Emmy Awards and inspiring a concert tour that was later brought to the big screen.
Its musical success was equally impressive, with the cast at one point surpassing The Beatles as the non-solo act with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100.
Which Original 'Glee' Stars Could Return?
Several former cast members have already shared their thoughts on a possible revival.
Chris Colfer previously acknowledged that bringing the series back would be difficult following Naya Rivera's death, although he did not completely rule out participating.
Max George, who appeared in the show's sixth season, has expressed interest in returning. Meanwhile, Matthew Morrison reportedly has not entered negotiations but hopes to be involved.
Beyond Michele, the original cast featured stars such as Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Dianna Agron, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Jenna Ushkowitz, Harry Shum Jr., and Chord Overstreet. For now, fans will have to wait for official announcements about who might return.
A 'Glee' Comeback Also Brings Back Heartbreaking Memories
While news of a possible revival has sparked excitement, it also brings back memories of the tragic losses the cast has experienced over the years.
Cory Monteith, who portrayed Finn Hudson, died in 2013 at the age of 31 following a drug overdose.
In 2020, Naya Rivera, known for playing Santana Lopez, died at the age of 33 in a drowning accident while boating with her young son, whom authorities said she had helped back onto the boat. Mark Salling, who played Noah "Puck" Puckerman, died by suicide in 2018.
These losses remain an important part of the show's history and raise questions about how a potential reboot might acknowledge the original cast while introducing a new chapter.
With negotiations reportedly underway, fans are now eager to discover which familiar faces will return to the world of 'Glee'.
