"Back to the Future"

The first 'Back to the Future' film was released in 1985. The main roles were played by Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. After the huge success of the flick, two more films were made, the last of which was released in 1990. Since then, no other films have been made - and for good reason.

Bob Gale

This was revealed by screenwriter Bob Gale on the 'Collider Podcast'. Bob wrote the script for all three films and is very satisfied that it remained only with these three. One of the reasons for this is also leading actor Michael J. Fox himself (see next picture).

Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox suffers from Parkinson's disease, which would make a reappearance as the main character "Marty McFly" impossible. Bob explained: "Do we want to see Marty McFly at age sixty with Parkinson’s Disease? Did we want to see him at age fifty with Parkinson’s Disease? Bob Gale didn't want a sequel to be made just for the money, because fans of other franchises have had enough bad experiences with that. "We didn’t want to be those guys who did a movie that was basically a moneygrab. Universal says to us, ‘You’d guys would make a whole lot of money,’ but we’re like, ‘Well, we’ve already made a whole lot of money with these movies, and we like them just the way they are. And as proud parents, we’re not going to sell our kids into prostitution.’"

Steven Spielberg

Producer Steven Spielberg also had an agreement with Bob not to make any more films in the franchise, he said. "We have an understanding with Spielberg and Amblin that there would never be another Back to the Future movie without our blessing or being involved. So it’s not going to happen," Bob Gale explained.

'Back to the Future' was a huge success. The movie with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd got two sequels, but since 1990 the franchise seems to be finished.

'Back to the Future': Fourth part is off-limits

One of the makers also confirms that there will be no fourth part of the film series. There are good reasons for this, as you can see in our picture gallery.
