  • The new movie is still a work in-progress

The Dirty Dancing sequel is still happening! You may remember that a sequel to the 1987 film with Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze was announced in the summer of 2020.

Ever since, we haven't heard much about the project. But there's finally an update, and it comes straight from star Jennifer Grey herself. It sounds like the movie is still a ways away, but they are working on it.

Dirty Dancing 2: Sequel update from Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey, 62, addressed the Dirty Dancing sequel in a new talk with People magazine. Though nearly two years have passed, the "Baby" actress says it's still a go and she is personally involved with the script.

"We've been working on it for a couple of years," Grey said of the sequel. "And I know in my heart, I would love to give fans or a young, new audience an experience that would never replicate [the original], but has the same kind of underpinnings."

Jennifer Grey believes Dirty Dancing has a pivotal message, and that's why she's so determined to revisit it. "Today people think that their identity is limited, the world has told them what it is," she explained.

"But there are certain people who can see other parts of you," she added, noting that Dirty Dancing is a "formula" that uses to dance to escape "your limiting belief systems."
