Before starring in the series she was already a much-loved Hollywood star and had been nominated for an Oscar four times. She won the Oscar for Best Actress in the 1948 film Johnny Belinda. She won four Golden Globes, one of them for her part in the Falcon Crest series.

After the Falcon Crest series finished, Wyman retired from the public eye due to suffering from severe diabetes. She died aged 90 on September 10, 2007.
