Fixer Upper star Chip Gaines: "We were screwed"

Now Chip Gaines is open about the time Fixer Upper was being filmed. On the From the Woodshed podcast, which Chip and Joanna release regularly, the 48-year-old reveals they had a burnout during seasons three or four.

"We were trying to move forward in the season we were doing. We were lost. We made projects 'backward," explains Chip. Among other things, that was a big reason for the cancellation of Fixer Upper in 2018.

Filming Fixer Upper was also getting on the nerves of Chip and Joanna. In an interview with Cowboys & Indians magazine, Chip admits that last season was particularly difficult to pull off.

Chip reveals that he felt "caged" and "trapped." The last season of Fixer Upper was therefore no longer fun for him, but was just "like a job".

Eventually, sometime after the cancellation of Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna decided to start their own TV network. Since 2022, they have been publishing content of their own on the subject of renovation and house beautification.
