"KITT" still has some gas left in the tank!

1980s TV favourite Knight Rider is returning to the big screen in a new reboot film. Deadline reported the news on Aug. 6, revealing the early details on the project.

Knight Rider movie in the works with James Wan

The new Knight Rider film will come from producer Spyglass Media Group. Michael Clear, TJ Fixman, and James Wan will develop the project. Wan, known for work on the Saw horror franchise, is also well-versed in vehicular action movies as director of Fast & Furious 7.

Deadline reports that few plot details are known at this time, but the film will be a "present-day take" that retains "the anti-establishment tone of the original." The film's cast is unknown, too, and nothing indicates that the original show's stars are involved with the project.

Knight Rider: TV series (with classic theme song) is still loved today

A new Knight Rider adaptation should come as intriguing news to fans of the '80s series. Knight Rider first aired on NBC with David Hasselhoff as "Michael Knight" and William Daniels as the voice of "KITT." Multiple TV reboots have followed in the decades since, as have video games, three TV movies, and fan convention KnightCon.

If the new film keeps with the values of the classic series — and gets a big-budget release — it should make for a nostalgic big screen ride. Stay tuned for news on cast details, the possibility of "The Hoff" cameos, and any rumours on reusing that classic theme song!
